The traditional way of creating a carpet-to-tile transition is with the tuck method. This should be done right after the tile floor has been installed. Once the tack strip is installed about a quarter inch from the edge of the tile, then the edge of the carpet is cut to match the edge the tile.

If you have a carpet-to-tile transition in a high traffic area, it is possible that the carpets will began to shred.
